{"id":101,"date":"2009-09-11T10:39:52","date_gmt":"2009-09-11T17:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.astoriababy.com\/?p=101"},"modified":"2010-02-10T01:02:29","modified_gmt":"2010-02-10T08:02:29","slug":"the-great-diaper-pail-smackdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.astoriababy.com\/?p=101","title":{"rendered":"The Great Diaper Pail Smackdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now is the time to start thinking about the registry and other fun, mind boggling things.<\/p>\n<p>For the most part, I have been able to choose simple items based on simple research &#8211; but here&#8217;s one I never even considered would be so much hassle &#8211; the diaper pail!<\/p>\n<p>Pops and I have decided cloth diapering is the way we&#8217;d like to go &#8211; and it turns out most of the popular diaper pails on the market are for disposable only. \u00c2\u00a0Sure, we could just get a typical waste basket and call it a day&#8230;.but what fun would that be without a little research first?<\/p>\n<p>So, here are a few things I know we would like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Decent size<\/li>\n<li>Odor control<\/li>\n<li>Ability to use bags of own choosing<\/li>\n<li>Ability to line pail with cloth bag<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A quick search tells me I should be looking at the Diaper Champ, Diaper Dekor, Safety 1st Easy Saver, a regular garbage pail, or a large dog food twist top storage container. \u00c2\u00a0Nice mix of products, right?<\/p>\n<p>Diaper Champ seemed promising &#8211; and supposedly met all the above listed criteria&#8230;.but based on further reviews, that was the old, original model&#8230;and the new one is not as great. \u00c2\u00a0It jams easily, and is not recommended for cloth diapers anymore&#8230;.There is one place online still selling the old version&#8230;.but the website seems a little sketchy. \u00c2\u00a0That said, I&#8217;m still tempted.<\/p>\n<p>The next contender is Diaper Dekor. \u00c2\u00a0While some reviewers have indicated they can use this with cloth diapers I&#8217;m not sure how &#8211; it takes special bags&#8230;.which I suspect would prevent us from using our own cloth ones. \u00c2\u00a0Hmm&#8230;.Not sure about this one.<\/p>\n<p>The Safety 1st Easy Saver is also touted as &#8216;cloth compatible&#8217; &#8211; but I&#8217;ve read about issues with the sealer on it &#8211; and that more or less defeats the purpose of a fancy diaper pail over a regular garbage can, now doesn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of regular garbage pails&#8230;.I have my reservations &#8211; only because I&#8217;d really like to see a rubber seal around the opening to really seal in odors. \u00c2\u00a0I have yet to come across one and until I do, I think we&#8217;ll need to skip this option.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly &#8211; a large dog food storage bin with twist top. \u00c2\u00a0This has potential &#8211; but from what I&#8217;ve seen, the capacity appears to be a bit lacking &#8211; and we wouldn&#8217;t be able \u00c2\u00a0to line the pail. \u00c2\u00a0I&#8217;m not too keen on using the &#8216;wet diaper pail&#8217; method for several reasons, so I&#8217;m not certain this is the way to go.<\/p>\n<p>So! \u00c2\u00a0In the end who wins? \u00c2\u00a0No one for now&#8230;although I may try to get my hands on the Diaper Champ 4000 &#8211; the original. \u00c2\u00a0Someone must have them&#8230;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now is the time to start thinking about the registry and other fun, mind boggling things.
